6 Ways Small-Sided Games Make a BIG Impact

Most frequent questions and answers

The most important reason for playing small-sided games is that it’s more fun! The intensity level can be higher, the decision making comes quicker, and the reaction times need to be faster.

SI6XES Lacrosse is highly social. Anyone can play!

With smaller team roster sizes, every player is in the game. Spectators are fully engaged while watching their favorite players in action.

Small-sided games allow for more successful inclusion of athletes of all ability levels. The layout of smaller teams and settings is more manageable and flexible so that the needs of athletes can be met and all feel included.

The smaller the teams the more opportunity each player has for participation, which maximizes skill development and athlete success rate (not to mention enjoyment). When athletes feel more competent and successful their overall participation also increases.

Small-sided games are an effective form of aerobic training to further develop physical fitness.

The small-sided game environment allows for more authentic assessment situations because coaches are able to view all athletes in action in a specific situation with a select focus. Coaches can quickly identify needs and strengths of individual athletes and/or the team and make adjustments in instruction.

Because participation is maximized with a specific focus in a smaller setting the coach is able to give specific feedback more often. The coach-athlete relationship is strengthened because athletes feel a sense of value when coaches are able to show and speak interest to their progress as well as provide feedback during their learning.
